What insulation does overhead
A standard metal roof blocks the sun but still gets hot. Heat soaks through the panel and radiates down. An insulated roof cover stops that.
The panels have a foam core sealed between two metal skins. The foam blocks heat from passing through. The underside stays close to air temperature instead of baking.
The difference is easy to feel. Stand under a plain metal roof at 2 p.m. in July. Then stand under an insulated panel. The second one feels like real shade.
This matters most on west-facing patios. Afternoon sun is the harshest. Insulated panels turn the worst seat in the yard into a usable room.
Built like a sandwich
Each panel is a sandwich: metal on top, thick foam in the middle, metal below. The top skin takes the weather. The foam stops the heat. The bottom skin gives a clean ceiling look.
Panels lock together with tongue-and-groove edges. The seams stay tight. Rain runs off the top without finding a way in.
The underside looks finished from day one. It is smooth and clean, ready for a ceiling fan or recessed lights. No exposed rafters, no rough edges.
Panels come in set widths and get cut to your patio size. The result looks like one smooth ceiling, not a patchwork of parts.
Fans and lights love these roofs
The flat underside is perfect for a ceiling fan. We plan the mount and wiring during the design visit. A fan under an insulated roof moves cool air on still nights.
Recessed lights sit flush in the panels. They give the patio a finished, indoor feel after dark. No hanging cords, no clamp lights.
Because the roof blocks heat, the fan does not fight a hot ceiling. The air it moves actually feels cool. Owners use the patio far more at night.
We wire for what you want now and leave room for later. Adding a light next year should not mean tearing the roof apart.
How it works
Insulated covers need exact measurements. The panels are ordered to size. We measure twice so the roof fits right the first time.
- Free visit. We measure the patio and study how the roof will tie into your house. We talk about fans, lights, and gutters.
- Panel plan. You see the layout: panel sizes, beam spots, and where the fan and lights will go. Nothing is a surprise.
- Written price. One price in writing covers panels, frame, wiring rough-in, and install. The price holds.
- Permits. Broward County requires a permit. We prepare the drawings and file them for you.
- Install. The frame goes up, panels lock in, and trim finishes the edges. Most jobs take two to three days.
Care stays simple
Rinse the top with a hose a few times a year. Salt and dust wash right off. The sealed panels do not absorb water.
Check gutters in fall when the seed pods drop. Clear gutters keep water moving away from the house wall.
The underside needs almost nothing. A damp cloth wipes off any spots. The baked finish resists stains.
After a major storm, glance at the trim and flashing. Panels rarely move, but trim pieces can loosen. We fix those fast.

Worth it for hot patios
Insulated covers cost more than plain metal. The payoff is comfort. If your patio faces west or south, the cooler ceiling is worth every dollar.
Think of it as adding a room without walls. The patio becomes usable at 3 p.m. in August. That is something a plain cover cannot promise.
Cooler shade, quieter rain
The big difference with an insulated roof is heat. A standard aluminum roof gets hot in the Fort Lauderdale sun and radiates that heat down onto your patio. An insulated panel has a foam core that blocks the heat transfer. The underside stays close to the air temperature instead of baking.
You feel it most in July and August. Under a regular metal roof, the patio can feel like sitting under a griddle at 3pm. Under an insulated roof, the shade actually feels like shade. Many owners tell us they use the patio two extra hours a day in summer, which is the whole point of building the cover.
Rain sounds different too. Hard rain on a thin metal roof is loud enough to shout over. The foam core dampens the drumming so a summer storm becomes background noise instead of a racket. If you take work calls or watch TV on the patio, that matters.
The panels are thicker and heavier than standard roofing, so the frame is built to match. That is handled in the engineering, not something you need to worry about. The finished look is clean, with a smooth ceiling underside that takes paint well if you ever want to change the color.
